Making Money In Tough Times

You've lost your job. You have an unexpected pregnancy. Your child just got accepted into college. Whatever the reason. You need a continuous flow of money. Once you've made the decision to start selling your products online, the question remains. What will you sell?

1. The best products to sell should be non-perishable and sturdy.

I once had a customer who wanted to ship specialty cup cakes cross country. The main components within the cupcake consisted of butter (that incidentally starts to melt at room temperature). The client scrapped the idea and started selling clothing and shoes.

2. Niche products are Best.

Selling what everybody else is selling is a sure way to put yourself out of business. Fast. If your product line consists of items your customers can pick up at the nearest Walmart, you need to change your product line.

3. Sell products that customer want and need.

Remember that gorgeous dress that you wore to prom, or that extra flash drive that you don't really need? These are products that are both seasonal and in constant demand. It's just a matter of finding the right buyer. Being on a network helps to increase your changes of sales because of visibility and market exposure.

A quick note.

Remember to check all products before shipping them out. This is a must especially if you have an online store that sells electronic items. Double check lap tops, flash drives, etc. to make sure that they are in good working order. If word gets around that you sell low quality, broken or malfunctioning products. Chances are you won't sell again.
